Description: Itihaas- The Indian Traditions and Heritage Society aims to create and nurture leadership in the field of cultural heritage. Its focus is on the child . To provide a platform where the youth can take charge and become responsible and proactive citizens of india and the world, Itihaas initiated a conversation through the Itihaas Address. The first Annual Address was delivered by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 6th of February 2017 at the Convent of Jesus and Mary. It was a red letter day for the school as children from more than fifty schools from across the country converged on the lawns of CJM to listen to an illuminating talk on "Compassion and Ethics: Source of Happiness" by the great spiritual leader. In his talk, the Dalai Lama highlighted the role played by the mother as first teacher in inculcating values. He emphasised the need to enforce compassion through value education classes in schools. He reiterated that intelligence and compassion must go hand in hand and anger and fear shunned. Though a single person is incapable of achieving a change, he further stated, a community could be organised for action to build a better world, for happiness has to be made and it comes out of our own actions. Therefore, not religion, but education , he said, had a key role to play in realising our own potential and confidence in our ability to spread the philosophy of kindness and compassion . The simplicity of the Address touched the students to the core as the Dalai Lama made several references to himself to which they could relate, besides his sense of humour engaged the young audience . His advice on the need to sleep for nine hours was well met. This was followed by an interactive session. The event was memorable. Apart from seeing the Dalai Lama in person, students also got the opportunity to watch Vilas Nayak, a self-taught artist of international repute, create an incredible masterpiece in minutes before their eyes.
