Description: The Middle School wing of Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi celebrated its Annual Day, ‘Shourya aur Balidan ki Ek Gaatha’ on 11th and 12th November, 2022 with great grandeur. Embedded deep into the Rajasthani culture lie the tales of the bravery, courage and sacrifice of both men and women who never flinched to die for the sake of their motherland. Paying a tribute to the women of valour, the students presented a magnificent dance-drama on one such unforgotten and much-revered story of Panna Dhai, who remains to be the epitome of courage for sacrificing her son to safeguard the future of Mewar. The Chief Guests for the event, Ambassador Bhaswati Mukherji, an alma mater of Convent of Jesus and Mary, and Ambassador Savithri Laxmanan graced the occasion on the consecutive days. After the sacred lamp lighting ceremony and a warm welcome of the esteemed guests, the programme commenced with the annual report, presented by the students, which highlighted the various events organised by the school in the Academic Year 2022-2023 and the achievements of the CJM students in the various inter-school competitions. In an ‘Ode to Women’, the students presented a tableau of pioneering Indian Women and women across the globe as role models who taught us to look beyond the gender stereotypes and awakened the young generation. This was followed by the dance-drama that set the auditorium alive with the era of Rana Sangha, battle of Khanwa, Rani Karnavati’s Jauhar and the sacrifice of Panna Dhai. The school choir presented a rendition of Rajasthani songs followed by various mesmerizing dances like Ghoomar, Kalbelia and various other classical dances.  As many as 500 students raptured the audience with their power-packed performances in their vibrant cultural attire on a grand stage with professional sound and light system. After the grand finale, Ambassador Bhaswati Mukherji and Ambassador Savithri Lakshmanan addressed the gathering and applauded the students for their splendid performances, whilst sharing the experiences of their school life. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. The Annual Day was indeed a fun filled fest of a fantastic turnout of the parents and guests with mirth, exuberance and delight!
